Doulas can make a big difference when it comes to having a baby!
Research shows:
· Birth memories last a lifetime and don’t diminish over time. · Birth experiences positively or negatively influence parenting and perinatal mood disorders. · Involvement in decision making (not the outcomes or the particular issue) leads to a significant increase in birth satisfaction.
What about the father's/ partner’s role when using a doula? The role of the doula is never to take the place of a fathers/partners in labor but rather to compliment and enhance their experience. Doulas help support fathers and partners so they have someone themselves to help show them what might be the best way to offer support throughout the labor and postpartum period.
Having a doula allows the father/partner to support the mother emotionally during labor and delivery and to also enjoy the experience without the added pressure of trying to remember everything he learned in childbirth class.
